Inter get revenge shot against Teesside earlier than expected

from MOTAD, 9th December 2008

Inter Huddersfield travelled to the North-East for the second time in 3 days. The previous meeting ended with Teesside winning the 3 points up for grabs. This time a place in the 2nd round of the League Cup was at stake. The first time round the fixture was dominated by Inter, and was settled in the end with a controversial own goal by debutant Christian Richter.

Just 2,552 fans turned up to Ayresome Park to see this highly anticipated fixture. The game got underway, with Inter dominating from the start and, although the first half was goalless it was only a matter of time before Inter broke through Morris's line of defence.

It came from Bobby Charlton's corner, with Steven Sullivan out-jumping everyone to acrobatically lash the ball home from 12 yards. It broke Teesside's resilience, and 9 minutes later Sullivan repeated his first goal, to kill off Teesside. Franck Coly finished the game off in style, just a minute later, picking the ball up on his own in the Teesside half, with the keeper nowhere near, he slotted home to get his first goal of the season.

The few hundred traveling Huddersfield fans were bouncing up and down as the referee blew the whistle. Inter's revenge was complete, at least until the next meeting.
